You can trigger a dangerous avalanche on northerly and easterly-facing slopes. In these places, a weak collapsible layer of snow is buried near the ground and a thick slab rests on top. Areas with inconsistent snow coverage, thin spots, and with rocks protruding from the snow, are where you are likely to trigger these avalanches. Stick to southerly-facing slopes or slopes less than 30 degrees to reduce your chance of triggering an avalanche.
