Look out for wind-drifted slabs of snow on upper elevation slopes. You can trigger a small avalanche where you find more than about 8 inches of new snow. Likely areas include below corniced ridgelines and inside couloirs. Avoid steep, drifted terrain where you observe shooting cracks in the snow or the newly drifted slab feels hard or hollow underneath. Use extra caution on exposed slopes or in extreme terrain where small slides can have big consequences. Look for sheltered slopes with no slab, or slopes less than about 35 degrees, as safer options.

Spring snow can stick to very steep slopes as it falls. If the sun shows its face tomorrow, expect the new snow to sluff off very steep slopes and slopes with lots of rocks or cliffs.
