Some potential may persist for snowmobiles to trigger deep hard slab avalanches in isolated areas where weak faceted snow persist near the base of the snowpack. These dangerous slab avalanches are more likely to be triggered when multiple sleds are on a suspect slope at the same time and after snow surfaces have softened.

    In isolated areas weak, faceted snow persists near the base of the snowpack. Some potential may remain for snowmobilers or multiple snowmobiles on the same slope to trigger dangerous hard slab avalanches up to six feet deep. In these areas previous tracks on a slope are not an indication of stability. If a member of your party gets stuck on a suspect slope, refrain from adding additional weight to the snowpack by helping them get unstuck.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )A new weather system is approaching the region. Clouds will increase overnight. Snow showers are likely in the mountains on Wednesday with some rain showers at the lower elevations. Several inches of new snow accumulation are likely at the higher elevations by evening. Temperatures will be in the 20s in the mountains and in the 30s in the valleys. Winds will be westerly at 20 with gusts to 30 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW in the Teton and the Southwest Trails/Greys River areas. A MODEATE hazard is expected in the Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass areas where some potential for deep slab avalanches may persist in isolated areas.
