In sintesi

A crust makes for low avalanche danger but rugged travel conditions.

Steep sunny slopes may soften in the afternoon for better riding.

Confidence

High

  • Confidence is due to a stable weather pattern; little change is expected for several days.

Avalanche Summary

Small point release wet loose avalanches were observed on Sunday. Avalanche activity is considered generally unlikely.

Snowpack Summary

A crust extends to mountain top on south facing slopes. On north facing slopes it thins around treeline with wind affected dry snow lingering on high north slopes.

A layer of surface hoar, or a sun crust is buried 40-60 cm deep. This layer is currently not a concern with the thick surface crust.

A crust and facets buried near the base of the snowpack persists in shallow snowpacks. While not a concern, this layer could reactivate with significant snowfall or warming.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • A hard crust on the snow surface will help strengthen the snowpack, but may cause tough travel conditions.
  • Carefully evaluate steep lines for wind slabs.
  • Make observations and continually assess conditions as you travel.
