Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight, new moderately bonded windslab will add to existing localised areas of unstable windslab on North through East to South-East aspects mainly above 700m. Areas most affected will be corrie rims, gully exits, crag aprons and the leeward side of ridge crests. Wet snow instabilities expected as the freezing level rises above the summits, accompanied by rainfall from the early hours of the morning. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Strong to Gale-Force Southerly winds veering South-West and easing slightly in the afternoon. Frequent showers throughout the forecast period, initially falling as snow down to around 600m. As the freezing level rises above the summits by the early hours of Saturday morning the precipitation will increasing fall as rain at all levels with possible summit sleet through the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Light to moderate South-West winds. Occasional early morning showers cleared by mid-morning. The freezing level rose to around 600m. ObservedSnowStability: New accumulations of moderately bonded windslab have developed on North through East to South-East aspects above 700m. Areas most affected are steep corrie headwalls, gully exits, crag aprons and the leeward side of ridge crests. Below 700m and on other aspects, the remaining snow is generally firm and stable. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
