INCREASING AVALANCHE DANGER!!

The avalanche danger rating is CONSIDERABLE today.

All you can do right now to stay safe is to stick to slopes that are not steeper than 30˚ and have patience while we wait for this layer to stabilize which could take a while.

Avalanches can be triggered from a distance so make sure there are no steep slopes above you that could crash down on top of you.

    A Persistent Weak Layer of loose sugary faceted snow formed in mid November and is buried and causing problems. It is widespread across the Skyline on many aspects. Our pro observer Chris Magerl was prowling around the Fairview Canyon zone and documented this excellent observation.

    We've seen a number of natural avalanches that broke into the November Persistent Weak Layer. Cracking and collapsing have been regular observations over the last week. This type of weak layer doesn't just heal up overnight. It's going to continue to cause problems especially during and directly any new snow storm like the current one moving through.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions: The Manti Skyline received 4 to 5 inches of new snow overnight. Southerly winds were pretty strong yesterday and overnight. They've slowed a bunch but still seem a bit breezy over the highest terrain. Temperatures on Sunday were in the mid 20s and they've dropped into the mid teens. Riding conditions should continue to be excellent.

Mountain Weather: Snow should turn more showery this morning and we'll probably see a break today. I'm not expecting all that much accumulation during the day. The flow shifts more west and eventually northwest with moderate wind speeds. High temperatures today will stay in the mid teens. Snowfall should pick up a bit again overnight tonight and linger into Tuesday. My best guess is we could see an additional 3 to 6 inches by sometime Tuesday. Looking long term, a storm originally shaping up for the weekend has disappeared. The next significant storm looks like it'll get here just before Christmas.
