In sintesi

On Wednesday, most avalanche activity will be small and associated with the 4-7 inches of snow that fell Monday night.  Avalanches will be most likely on North and East slopes where the wind has blown this recent snow into a thicker and more cohesive slab.  It is too soon to rule out avalanches occurring in the older snow from the weekend, and these avalanches could be large.  These larger avalanches are most likely on very steep and poorly supported slopes, that may not have avalanched during the storm.

    Locally Moderate winds on Tuesday and then increasing winds on Wednesday will build Wind Slabs on North and East slopes.  Wind Slab avalanches will be likely and most will be small, but it is too soon to rule out large avalanches on steep, unsupported slopes.  While snowpack analysis will be useful for evaluating more recently built Wind Slabs, it will be hard to assess the potential for deeper, older, and more stubborn Wind Slabs.  The best tool here is to avoid the steepest unsupported slopes as well as larger triggers like Cornices or smaller Wind Slabs.

    Most Storm Slab instabilities associated with last weekend's heavy snowfall have likely settled by now.  I am hesitant to lower the danger below treeline, given the sheer volume of snow that we received and the initial instabilities we observed.  Avalanches remain possible on very steep or poorly supported slopes.

    Avalanche danger will increase as we receive new snow, but snow isn't forecast to begin until late in the afternoon.  It is unlikely that this rise in danger will affect most riders on Wednesday.
