Avalanche Activity

The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger. The wind slabs can be released even by a single winter sport participant in all aspects. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the icy crust.

As a consequence of new snow and a moderate wind, wind slabs formed adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls as well as above the tree line. In particular in regions exposed to heavier precipitation the avalanche prone locations are more widespread and the danger is greater. On steep slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain small and medium-sized dry slab avalanches are possible as a consequence of new snow and wind. In many places there is a danger of falling on the icy crust.

Snowpack Structure

In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on an icy crust. In addition wind slabs formed in all aspects. Weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas.
