Human triggered avalanches are possible on steep avalanche prone slopes and in active slide paths. Soft surface slabs one to two feet in depth could be triggered by skiers or riders at all elevations. Older hard slabs with depths to five feet continue to be a concern, especially for larger triggers like snow machines. Conservative terrain choices are recommended.

    Multiple persistent weak layers exist in the snowpack. These weak layers are comprised of faceted snow and are potential bed surfaces for avalanche activity. Soft slabs up to 18 inches in depth could be human triggered on recently buried surface hoar. Older hard slabs with depths to five feet could be human triggered with severe consequences on deeper buried layers of faceted snow.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )The cloud deck currently over the region will slowly lift and thin on Tuesday as its associated low pressure system moves into Colorado and Kansas. Winds will diminish to around 10 to 15 miles per hour and back towards the northwest. Some snow showers and flurries with little or no accumulations are possible. Temperatures will drop to near ten below zero in the valleys. In the mountains temperatures will be near zero overnight and warm into the upper single digits and low tees during the day.Human triggered slab avalanches are possible on steep avalanche prone slopes and in active avalanche paths. These events are mostly likely to be one to two feet deep but could step down to depths of five feet, especially in the Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass area where snow depths are shallower and weak faceted snow persist deeper in the snowpack. We continue to recommend conservative terrain choices.
