At the upper elevations, backcountry travelers have a small possibility of triggering isolated pockets of surface slab up to 18 inches deep in very steep, wind loaded terrain. The avalanche hazard will slowly increase during the day as strong southwesterly winds and new snow create soft slabs on leeward slopes with depths up to 8 inches by this evening. With near freezing overnight temperatures at the lower elevations, extended periods of rain in the valley could result in shallow, wet loose sluffs.

Light snow showers will be possible overnight and into Tuesday morning before the next Pacific trough moves into the area increasing snowfall rates and intensity. Westerly ridgetop winds at 15 to 25 miles per hour overnight will back to the southwest by tomorrow morning. Overnight lows in the mountains will be in the mid teens before rising to near freezing during the day.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW Tuesday morning and will slowly increase as strong southwesterly winds and new snow continue to build isolated pockets of soft slabs on leeward slopes. At the higher elevations, backcountry travelers could trigger these six to twelve inch slabs in steep, wind loaded terrain.
