Avalanche Activity

As the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be an increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches.

As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible below approximately 2800 m. In the last four days mostly small wind slabs formed. They must be evaluated with care and prudence. Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in steep terrain at elevated altitudes and on shady slopes. These are to be evaluated with care and prudence in particular in terrain where there is a danger of falling.

Snowpack Structure

Up to 30 cm of snow has fallen since yesterday. The strong wind has transported the new snow significantly. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. Towards its surface, the snowpack is weak in some cases and its surface consists of loosely bonded snow lying on a crust that is strong in many cases. This applies in particular on shady slopes,. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to moistening of the snowpack on steep sunny slopes. The old snowpack remains generally stable.
