At the higher elevations pockets of surface slab up to 18 inches in depth lie upon a persistent weak layer of surface hoar and light density snow. In some steep, wind loaded avalanche starting zones these slab are poorly bonded to hard old snow surfaces formed during an extended dry period in February and could be triggered by skiers and riders. Warming temperatures will increase the sensitivity of these slabs to human triggers.
