Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs as the day progresses. As a consequence of the precipitation avalanches are possible as the day progresses, but they can reach medium size in some cases.

The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs that are forming in all aspects represent the main danger. The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs formed during the snowfall can be released, especially by large additional loads, in all aspects above approximately 2000 m. As a consequence of the precipitation avalanches are possible as the day progresses, but they can reach medium size. In particular on steep shady slopes avalanches can be triggered in the weakly bonded old snow.

Snowpack Structure

Individual weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. The new snow is lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 1800 m.
