In sintesi

The snowpack is stable and avalanche activity will be limited to shallow wind slabs above 9,000 feet. Three to five inches of light density snow has fallen since Friday evening, and an additional three to five inches is forecast for today. Below the new snow are a variety of melt-freeze crusts. On solar aspects where crusts are smooth and slick, the new snow could easily sluff off the slopes. As the storm moves into the area today it is expected to favor the southern portion of the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges, and there may be locations with heavier snowfall and stronger winds resulting in more hazardous avalanche conditions. Backcountry travelers should monitor for changing weather and be aware of the challenging snow surfaces.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )The storm system passing over Nevada toward the four corners is expected to mainly affect the southern portion of the forecast area and stay east of the divide. Temperatures will be cooling over the week, and tomorrow will be in the low to mid-teens at 10,000 feet and teens to twenties in the valleys. Light to moderate winds will vary from south to east to north. Accumulation amounts by Sunday evening could be 10 to 12 inches in the Salt and Wyoming Ranges and three to five inches for the Togwotee Pass and Teton forecast areas. The avalanche danger will increase with the new snowfall. In the Tetons and Togwotee Pass forecast areas, limited snowfall will keep the hazard Low, and avalanche activity will remain unlikely. For the Southwest Trails forecast area, periods of moderate to heavy snowfall will increase the potential for small storm and wind slab avalanches, and the hazard may increase to Moderate by the afternoon. Backcountry travelers should monitor the storm as some areas may receive heavier snowfall and stronger winds.
