Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will persist in wind-sheltered areas, mainly on North-West through North to East aspects above 1000 metres. Deeper accumulations will generally be localised. Elsewhere the snowpack will be generally well bonded and stable. Where exposed to the sun the surface will soften. Cornices, especially those exposed to the sun, will be unstable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Wind will be South-Easterly throughout, very strong overnight then easing through the afternoon. It is expected to be dry and sunny, with summit air temperatures above freezing during the evening, then lowering overnight to -3C. Observed Weather Influences: It was a dry sunny day with very strong mainly South-South-East winds. The freezing level rose above the summits. ObservedSnowStability: Redistribution of snow was forming new windslab in wind-sheltered areas, mainly on North-West to North-East aspects above 900 metres. Recently deposited moderately bonded windslab is also present, greatest accumulations of which are on North to East aspects above 900 metres. Cornices, especially those exposed to the sunshine, are unstable. Surface instabilities developed on steep slopes affected by solar radiation. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
