Forecast Snow Stability: There will be a significant thaw throughout the day on Wednesday. The existing snowpack is well consolidated, and will become wet, and in general remain stable. Due to rain amounts, some wet snow instability is possible on extremely steep ground above 850 metres on North through East to South aspects giving the possibility of some small wet snow avalanches at these locations. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Forecast Weather Influences: There will be rain to all levels throughout the period, heaviest, and most persistent during the day on Wednesday. Winds will be South-South-West, gale force overnight, but then easing to Fresh to Moderate from Wednesday morning. Freezing level will be well above the summits throughout. Observed Weather Influences: After a mainly dry morning, it became increasingly showery, with rain to all levels by this afternoon. Winds were gale force South-Westerly on the tops and the freezing level was well above the summits throughout. ObservedSnowStability: The existing snowpack is thawing and consolidated with some snow loss and depletion of existing snowfields occurring. Greatest snow accumulations can be found above 800 metres, on North through to East aspects. Firmer snow, with icy patches exist at higher elevations. The avalanche hazard is Low.
