East Slopes South

With slightly cooler temperatures and cloudier skies, conditions will be generally safe on Monday. By and large, wet snow avalanches have run their course. But if you find yourself in wet, sloppy snow, avoid lingering on steep slopes of similar aspects and under terrain features where snow might fall from.

The East South zone will experience the beginnings of a cooling trend on Monday. Temperatures won't be cold exactly, but they won't be as spring-like as they were last week. A dusting of new snow might even grace upper and middle elevations overnight as freezing levels hover around 5000-5500 ft. We no longer expect wet snow problems to be an issue. However, there could be some lingering warmth and water within the snowpack after such a long and extensive warm-up. Keep an eye out for signs of wet snow and give sagging cornices at middle elevations a wide berth.

An NWAC Forecaster visited Ahtanum Meadows on Saturday to gather some information for this hard to reach and data poor zone. She found a varied but overall stable snowpack. Travel conditions were mostly less than ideal, but some soft and dry surface snow could still be found at upper elevations on shaded aspects. This is one piece of data in a large chunk of terrain for which this forecast is for. If you travel to other parts of the zone, you'll have to do your own snowpack assessments to garner whether conditions are similar.
