Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The patchy and limited snowpack that remains mostly above 750 metres on North-West through North to Easterly aspects, although moist and diminishing in extent, will remain stable throughout. This will become firmer later in the afternoon as it refreezes. New snow accumulations above 600m are not expected to be significant. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Mild temperatures will continue overnight and during the day, freezing level overnight at 1400 metres will lower during the Thursday afternoon to 800 metres or so. Precipitation falling as rain at all levels overnight will gradually turn to sleet and snow above 600m as it cools in the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A mild day with a freezing level well above the summits, temperatures plus 2 deg C on the tops. Winds strong Southerly. Showers of rain at all levels. Poor visibility. ObservedSnowStability: The patchy and limited snowpack that remains mostly above 750 metres on North-West through North to Easterly aspects continues to diminish in the mild conditions. Although moist it remains well bonded and stable throughout. The avalanche hazard is Low.
