Avalanche Activity

Over a wide area significant warming. The wind slabs of the last few days are to be evaluated with care and prudence. Backcountry touring calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.

The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls above the tree line. Large and, in isolated cases, very large natural avalanches are possible. The wind slabs can be released easily by a single winter sport participant. As a consequence of warming, the likelihood of natural moist avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on steep sunny slopes above the tree line. In the event of solar radiation caution is to be exercised in particular at the base of rock walls. Slides can occur on cut slopes.

Snowpack Structure

The wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack. Weak layers exist in the snowpack.

Tendency

The weather conditions will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack.
