Glide-snow avalanches are still a threat

Avalanche above the treeline is moderate, below that altitude danger is moderate. Above the treeline are fresh snowdrift accumulations, esp. on N/E/S facing slopes which are prone to triggering, in some places (gullies, bowls, behind protruberances) even by 1 person, but most releases are small. Also the gliding snow problem will persist. Danger zones occur in all aspects. Glide-snow avalanches can release on steep slopes or smooth rocky ground at any time of day, mostly are small sized. Avoid zones below glide cracks.

Due to the intensifying winds the fresh snow has been and will continue to be transported. Above the treeline a wind crust will form. Soft layers beneath it constitute a weak layer. Since the snowpack is thoroughly wet at low/intermediate altitudes the entire snowpack can glide over smooth ground (grass, rocks) if the gradient is steep enough.

In the Nockberge, some sunshine and good visibility. Winds below the treeline will be light to moderate from NW. Mild air masses will move in from the west as the day progresses. At 2000 m: -7 rising to -4 degrees.

As a result of higher temperatures the snowdrift problem will recede. The gliding snow problem will persist.
