Avalanche Activity

The northwesterly wind will transport the snow. Slab avalanches are the main danger.

The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant. This applies in particular above approximately 2400 m. Medium-sized to large slab avalanches are possible. In particular on steep shady slopes the avalanches can be released in deep layers of the snowpack and reach large size. Backcountry touring calls for careful route selection.

Snowpack Structure

The wind will be moderate to strong. The wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack above approximately 2400 m. The new snow is lying on soft layers in particular on shady slopes above approximately 2500 m. Individual weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in shady places that are protected from the wind, in particular at high altitude.
