Avalanche Activity

New snow above approximately 1600 m. As a consequence of rain an unfavourable avalanche situation will be encountered in some regions.

The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information. As the precipitation becomes more intense the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase as the day progresses. On steep slopes small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized dry and wet avalanches are possible as a consequence of the new snow.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow is lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack on steep shady slopes above approximately 1600 m. Faceted weak layers exist deeper in the snowpack on steep shady slopes. Weak layers in the old snowpack necessitate caution. Above approximately 1500 m snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
