In sintesi

The overall avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE today. Areas of HIGH AVALANCHE DANGER still exist in the upper elevation steep north through east facing terrain.

HUMAN TRIGGERED AVALANCHES ARE VERY LIKELY TODAY.

Avalanche conditions will remain dangerous into the weekend.

Problemi valanghivi

By far the biggest concern today is an avalanche that breaks into old buried weak layers of sugar snow. There are a couple of layers of concern but it's not important to try to dissect them. What's important is that:

    1. We know they are there.
    2. Two feet of new snow was just stacked on top of them. There is much more snow than that in areas where the wind has been drifting it.
    3. There were human triggered avalanches on Friday breaking into old weak snow.
    4. Reports of collapsing on Friday indicate these buried persistent weak layers are unstable.

It is not the time to recreate on any steep slopes.

Recent Activity

A man is missing after being buried in an avalanche near Circleville Mountain in the Tushars on Friday. Search and Rescue crews will be at the scene this morning.

There were three snowmobile triggered avalanches on Friday in the Gooseberry zone of the Fish Lake region. One involved a partial burial of a rider.
