In sintesi

New snow accompanied by southwest winds has increased the avalanche hazard. Snowfall favored the west slope and northern end of the Teton Range with up to 9 inches. At the upper elevations, especially along ridges, backcountry travelers could trigger wind slab avalanches, 6 to 12 inches deep, on steep, wind loaded terrain features. These slabs will be more sensitive in areas where they have formed over a hard crusts and faceted snow grains. Keep in mind, the increased hazard with these small avalanches due to the thin snowpack and many obstacles on the slopes.

Avalanche Discussion

An inversion will form overnight as mountain temperatures drop into the single digits and valleys below zero. Clouds will continue to dissipate, and for tomorrow, mostly clear skies are expected. Mountain and valley temperatures will climb into the twenties, and light winds will remain out of the north to northwest. The snowpack is mostly stable, and the avalanche hazard will be Low. Along the highest ridges on steep wind-loaded slopes, skiers and riders could find isolated pockets of small wind slab, 6 to 12 inches deep. Due to the thin snowpack and hidden obstacles, any moving snow could result in severe consequences.
