Avalanche Activity

LO for 3.3 Snowpack generally stable, but some old windslab. New shallow windslab mainly on W-N-NE aspects above 1000m. Hazard Low

Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack will remain generally stable, though some windslab will be present in gullies above 1000 metres. During the day fresh windslab will be deposited in wind-sheltered areas, mainly on West through North to North-East aspects above 1000 metres. Accumulations are not expected to gain significant depth or be extensive. Gully tops and coire rims will be most affected. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds will be strong South-Easterly overnight, easing during the day and veering Southerly during the afternoon. Overnight it is expected to be mainly dry; light precipitation during the day falling as snow above around 1000 metres. Observed Weather Influences: It was a dry day, with strong mainly South-Easterly winds. The freezing level rose to around 700 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is generally frozen and stable. Localised windslab is present in wind-sheltered areas, mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 1000 metres. Some newer deposits of windslab are also present on West to North aspects above 900 metres. These are generally shallow and not significant. The avalanche hazard is Low.
