Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack, which will mainly exist in the higher Northerly and Easterly corries will remain firm and icy at all altitudes and aspects. North-Easterly variable winds and light falls of new snow later in the day may form isolated areas of unstable windslab in wind sheltered locations such as gullies and around corrie headwalls. These accumulations are not expected to be deep or extensive but bonding will be poor where they form on re-frozen old snow. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The cold, fresh to strong North to North-Easterly airflow will continue to affect the area. It will remain mainly dry with the possibility of some light scattered snow showers later in the day. Amounts of new snow are expected to be limited. The overnight freezing level will be around 300 metres rising to 550 metres by the end of the day. Observed Weather Influences: A cold, mainly dry North-Easterly airflow (arctic maritime) is affecting the area. Freezing occurred at most levels overnight. The freezing level today has risen to around 600 metres. There has been a slight trace of new snow. ObservedSnowStability: Greatest accumulations of snow exist in the higher Northerly and Easterly corries and gullies. Elsewhere cover is very limited and patchy. Overnight cold conditions re-froze the snowpack at all levels. The surface of the snowpack today remains firm, icy and unforgiving even in areas affected by solar radiation. With only trace amounts of new snow, stability is good. The avalanche hazard is Low.
