Avalanche Activity

In some localities increase in danger of dry avalanches as the snowfall becomes more intense. The danger of small and medium sized dry avalanches will increase during the day, reaching danger level 2 (moderate).

On very steep northeast, north and northwest facing slopes and above approximately 2200 m individual small dry loose snow avalanches are possible as a consequence of the new snow. The fresh snow and in particular the wind slabs can be released easily, or, in isolated cases naturally above approximately 2300 m. In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation this applies in particular on very steep northeast, north and northwest facing slopes.

Snowpack Structure

5 cm of snow, and up to 10 cm in some localities, fell in the last few days above approximately 2000 m. The small quantity of fresh snow and isolated wind slabs are lying on a crust. Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on steep northeast, north and northwest facing slopes. This applies especially above approximately 2500 m.

Tendency

Gradual increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of the snowfall.
