Recent winds have impacted most open areas, making soft surfaces scarce, even at lower elevations. About 10 cm of recent snow rests on a variable interface with surface hoar or sun crusts. Below this, the snowpack is strong and bonded, with treeline snow depths averaging 150 to 200 cm.
