Avalanche Activity

Weak layers in the old snowpack are treacherous. From the middle of the day the natural activity of moist avalanches will increase.

Even single winter sport participants can release avalanches. In particular on very steep north, northeast and east facing slopes the avalanches can be released in the weakly bonded old snow and reach medium size. Remotely triggered avalanches are possible in isolated cases. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation small and medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible. Backcountry touring and other off-piste activities call for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow of last week has settled to a large extent in all aspects. The old snowpack remains weakly bonded on shady slopes. The more recent wind slabs are to be found areas not adjacent to ridgelines, this also applies adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas above approximately 2300 m. Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be reduced.

Tendency

The surface of the snowpack will only just freeze and will soften quickly. Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be reduced. The danger of moist avalanches will increase a little during the day.
