Avalanche Activity

NC for 24.2.23. Gen stable some surface and local deep weaknesses on N,NE,E aspects above 1000m. Haz Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will continue to diminish but will be generally stable in all areas below 1000 metres. Above this level it will be mostly stable however, some surface instabilities may be possible in steep locations on mainly Northerly to Easterly aspects where most accumulations remain. Here also weaknesses may linger at depth especially in steep convex terrain, around coire headwalls and gully tops. The avalanche hazard will be Low

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Remaining mild with the freezing level above summits. Winds strong South-Westerly at first becoming gale force by mid afternoon. Some drizzle to summit levels overnight but thereafter it is expected to remain dry during the day. Observed Weather Influences: It has been a very mild day with strong South-Westerly winds and midday summit temperatures of plus 4 degrees Centigrade. A dry day. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack continues to slowly diminish especially at lower elevations on all aspects where it is moist but stable. Above 1000 metres on mostly Northerly to Easterly aspects some lingering instabilities are present but only in isolated places such as steep convex terrain, gully tops and around core rims. Any remaining cornices continue to threaten with collapse. The avalanche hazard is Moderate
