Forecast Snow Stability: The recent dusting of new snow will thaw at all levels through the afternoon. The patchy old snow will remain generally firm and stable throughout, becoming wet later, with a softening surface at lower elevations. The avalanche hazard will be Low.
Snowpack Structure
Forecast Weather Influences: After a largely dry night and morning, a band of rain, preceded by summit snow, will intensify through the afternoon, with rain at all levels as the freezing level rises from 600 metres to above the summits by midday. The fresh Northerly wind will ease overnight, backing Westerly, becoming strong with summit gales developing in the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Isolated showers, becoming more frequent by late morning, wintry on the higher summits with fresh snow settling above 500 metres during showers. Moderate to fresh North-West wind. Freezing level around 600 metres. ObservedSnowStability: There is a light dusting of new snow above 600 metres on all aspects with more obvious deposits in wind sheltered locations, East to South aspects around the higher summits. The patchy old snow is firm and stable throughout. The avalanche hazard is Low.
