Avalanche Activity

Small snowdrift accumulations

Avalanche danger is low. Fresh small snowdrift accumulations can in isolated cases be triggered where there is an old snowpack beneath them. Danger zones occur in very steep shady terrain in NW/E wind-loaded gullies and bowls. The risks of taking a fall outweigh those of being buried in snow masses.

Snowpack Structure

Since Sunday evening, 10-20 cm of fresh snow has fallen. Winds were often strong. Fresh snow and drifts were deposited atop a loosely-packed old snowpack surface only in very isolated places. Mostly the bonding of fresh snbow and drifts to the old snowpack is favourable, or else the fresh snow landed on bare ground.

Weather Synopsis

On Wednesday, heavy intermediate-altitude cloud cover. Light rainfall/snow showers in the Northern Alps during the morning. The snowfall level will ascend from 600 m in early morning to 1500 m at midday. Dry weather is expected as of midday. At 2000 m in the afternoon: 0 degrees; at 3000 m: -6 degrees.

Tendency

Low avalanche danger will continue.
