Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs represent the main danger.

Some snow will fall in some localities. The avalanche danger will persist. The more recent wind slabs are to be found especially adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. These are to be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on northwest to east to southeast facing aspects above approximately 2300 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in steep terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. The wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases. Avalanches can in isolated cases be triggered in the old snowpack and reach quite a large size.

Snowpack Structure

Above approximately 1500 m snow will fall in some localities. Wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on steep shady slopes.
