Avalanche Activity

The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger. Increase in danger of moist avalanches as a consequence of warming.

In some localities up to 40 cm of snow has fallen since Wednesday above approximately 2500 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found at the base of rock walls and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. The new snow can be released by a single winter sport participant in all aspects. As a consequence of warming, the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on steep slopes. Backcountry touring calls for meticulous route selection.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. The weather conditions will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack.

Tendency

Up to 2200 m rain will fall on Sunday over a wide area. Gradual increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches as a consequence of the rain.
