    Snow showers this morning may produce just enough snow to build small wind slabs high up in start zones at middle and upper elevations where temperatures remain below freezing.  Warmer temperatures below 4500 feet should work to limit this avalanche problem to just the higher elevations, and the relatively low probability of precipitation may work to limit this avalanche problem at all elevations.

Despite LOW danger, no mountain environment is without risk. Continue to make deliberate and informed travel decisions. As always, if something doesn't feel right, don't be afraid to back off and return another day.

Forecasters in Tuckerman Ravine yesterday found a generally stable snow pack. Ice crusts from the previous day had melted leaving a thin 4-6 inch thick layer of wet homogenous snow stuck to the damp bed surface below.

Today’s snow forecast of a trace to 2 inches comes with a relatively low probability of around 30%. There’s a reasonable chance that new wind slabs do not build due to lack of snow and wet snow settling into a warm snow surface.

  • The John Sherburne Ski Trail is closed ½ way down from the top at the fifth cut-over.  Please cross over to the Tuckerman Ravine trail at the yellow rope and walk down the hiking trail.
  • The Harvard Cabin is closed for the season.
  • The Lion Head Summer Trail remains closed for the season due to avalanche risk. The Lion Head Winter Route is open.
