Forecast Snow Stability: Areas of unstable windslab will be deposited through the day. Initially deposits will be quite shallow and mainly on North to East aspects above 900 metres. These areas will increase in depth and extent particularly during the afternoon. North-West and West aspect will also become affected. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snow shower are expected overnight and during the morning before a more substantial band of snowfall reaches the area late afternoon. Winds from the South-West backing to the South-East and strengthening during the afternoon. The freezing level will be around 500 metres rising towards 1200 metres right at the end of the period. Observed Weather Influences: Overnight the freezing level briefly rose above the summits before dropping to about 900 metres where it remained through the day. A dry morning was followed by a few hours of snowfall early afternoon. The wind was from the South-West. ObservedSnowStability: The existing snowpack froze and consolidated overnight. It was firm and icy above 900 metres. Below that level it was thawing gently. During the afternoon some areas of fresh windslab were deposited on mainly North to East aspects above 900 metres. These areas were not particularly extensive or deep. The avalanche hazard is Low.
