Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs require caution. Weakly bonded old snow requires caution.

As a consequence of new snow and a sometimes strong wind, avalanche prone wind slabs formed in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. This applies in particular at elevated altitudes. The fresh wind slabs can in some cases be released by a single winter sport participant, but they will be small in most cases. Avalanches can be released in the weakly bonded old snow also, this applies even in case of a single winter sport participant in isolated cases. Caution is to be exercised in particular on steep northwest, north and east facing slopes above approximately 1800 m. In isolated cases avalanches are medium-sized. The number and size of avalanche prone locations will increase with altitude.

Snowpack Structure

Some snow has fallen in some regions. As a consequence of a sometimes strong wind from northerly directions, sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed. The wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack at elevated altitudes. Above approximately 1800 m: The snowpack will be unfavourable at elevated altitudes. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack. This applies in particular on northwest, north and east facing slopes. Little snow will fall on Monday.

Tendency

Avalanches can in some places be released by a single winter sport participant.
