Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs: Backcountry touring calls for defensive route selection.

The fresh snow of the last few days as well as the wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack in some places. Artificially triggered avalanches confirm this situation. Single winter sport participants can release avalanches, including large ones. During the day: Moderate northwesterly wind. The fresh wind slabs will form in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. In addition the wind slabs of Sunday are capable of being triggered in some locations. Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural avalanches are possible, especially on sunny slopes, as well as in steep rocky terrain.
