Avalanche Summary

Avalanche conditions are dangerous. Continued snow and wind on Wednesday will add weight to an already tender snowpack. We had several reports of avalanches near Grand Lake, on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park, and in the Never Summer Range. As the wind stacks up slabs on a weak snowpack, avalanches will break wider, and you can trigger these avalanches from flat areas below steep slopes. Avalanches are very likely in areas that get more than about a foot of new snow.

Avoid steep slopes where you see active snow drifting, see bulbous pillows of recently drifted snow, or observe shooting cracks in the snow.
