Avalanche Activity

Watch out for locally wind-drifted snow slabs and pillows in the high Tatras. On sunlit slopes small wet slides are possible.

From the recent light snowfall, locally in some, mainly shaded areas, there may be snow slabs or cushions lying on top of older hard to icy ground and not sufficiently well bonded to it. Exceptionally, small drifts can be expected that end in terrain traps with protruding rocks. Spontaneous wet slides and smaller avalanches may occur on the southern slopes due to warm inversion weather and sun.

Snowpack Structure

The snow cover in most of the area is settled, the surface is mostly hard crust. In valleys and on access paths there is sometimes even water ice. The snow cover is moist to wet during the day due to warm inversion weather and sunlight. On average, there is between 15 and 30 cm of snow in the mountains, and locally up to 50 cm of snow in couloirs and couloirs. No significant change is expected in the coming days.

Tendency

Persistent - no significant change is expected in the next few days.
