Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight, the existing moist snowpack will refreeze. New unstable windslab will develop mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. Some other aspects may be affected due to cross-loading. Locations most affected will be steep wind-sheltered areas such as gully tops, crag aprons and corrie rims. Cornices will form above the same aspects. Elsewhere the snowpack will be generally well bonded, firm and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.
Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will be around 300 metres rising to 800 metres during the day. Frequent showers overnight, becoming more scattered during the day, before dying out. Initially these will be wintry to glen level, then rising to fall as snow above 800 metres. Gale force Westerly winds will veer North-West overnight, then decrease steadily to reach moderate by the end of the forecasting period. Observed Weather Influences: The freezing level fell from above the summits to be around 900 metres at midday. Heavy showers, were becoming more wintery on the higher tops as the freezing level lowered. Gale force West-South-Westerly winds. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack has thawed and has become moist at all levels. Wet snow instabilities exist mainly on steep North through East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. The snowpack is starting to consolidate with the onset of colder temperatures. Shallow deposits of new windslab were starting to form on North-East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
