Avalanche Activity

Increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and wind.

In the last two days rather small wind slabs formed in particular at elevated altitudes. They represent the main danger. The fresh wind slabs can in isolated cases be released by a single winter sport participant, but they will be small in most cases. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls. Small natural avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

10 to 20 cm of snow fell on Friday above approximately 2200 m. New snow is lying on a hard crust. The cold fresh snow of yesterday and the mostly small wind slabs have bonded well with the old snowpack. Less snow than usual is lying. On sunny slopes below approximately 2600 m from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying. In the last few days hardly any more avalanches occurred naturally. Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on steep northeast, north and northwest facing slopes.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
