Forecast Snow Stability: The patchy snow cover will be well bonded and stable with surface layers softening in the milder conditions, especially at lower elevations. More extensive areas of snow will be encountered above 900 metres, most frequently on the high mountains of the main Cairngorm plateau. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing levels are expected to be above the summits. Dry overnight but light rain throughout the day. Winds will mostly be South-South-East, moderate becoming fresh in the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A cloudy day with light snowfall above 800 metres. Winds were moderate in strength from the South. ObservedSnowStability: A shallow covering of new snow above 800 metres with isolated, shallow accumulations forming in wind sheltered locations on mainly North-West to North-East aspects above 800 metres. The patchy old snow, which is mostly to be found above 900 metres, is well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
