The atmospheric river ran its course and residual wet snow avalanches may still occur as the snowpack drains. Avoid lingering beneath avalanche paths, especially at upper elevations, for another day.

    Wet slab, glide, wet loose, and rock-and-dirt-alanches are lingering avalanche problems after the deluge we received Monday and Tuesday. Likelihood of an avalanche occurring has reduced, but especially at higher elevations there may still be large natural avalanche releases as water percolates down through the snowpack. Upper elevations had a larger and drier snowpack to start with so this is where we expect much of the lingering activity to happen. The snowpack shrunk extensively at the mid and lower elevations where nearly all of it was fully saturated with water.  For another day, avoid spending time beneath avalanche paths, as there's a chance a large, destructive, dirty avalanche could still come down on you.

Avalanche Discussion

The Bumping Ridge Snotel Site, sitting at 4600ft went from a snow height of 22" Monday evening to 12" Tuesday evening. Patchy snow cover is what you'll find at lower elevations. If you hunt hard, you may be able to trigger a small avalanche somewhere down there, but until we get more snow likelihood is low. 

This storm began last Thursday and it dropped a total of about 6" of water in the zone. The first half fell as snow before temperatures warmed and we received rain to the highest elevations. Especially after this deluge, low tide conditions exist across much of the zone. Look for shallowly buried hazards such as rocks, creeks, and trees. Don't let an early season injury end your or your sled's season. 

We have limited information about conditions in the East South zone. If you get out into the backcountry,  let us know what you see by submitting an observation!
