In sintesi

Small Wet Loose avalanches will be possible at low elevations during the afternoon.  A thick rain crust exists throughout much of our ski terrain.  We had similarly firm conditions last January and there were numerous skier accidents from falling on steep slopes.

There were no reports of avalanche activity on Friday.  Saturday is forecast to be a bit warmer.  I anticipate  we'll see small Wet Loose avalanches on steep South facing slopes at low elevations (like Santiam Pass).

While Wet Loose avalanches are possible, the greater hazard on Saturday might be skiing too early and taking a bad fall on the ice.  Make sure things are soft enough if you are venturing into steeper terrain.

Avalanche Discussion

Mixed precipitaion on Thursday, followed by cold overnight temepratures have left a "stout" crust throughout the range.  Our observers found the crust to be about 10cm. thick (check out Elliot's picture below).
