If the weather forecast verifies, we will likely see to 4 to 8 inches of new snow by nightfall with the Flathead Range and Swan Range seeing the upper end. This new snow will develop soft slabs on all aspects. Cracking in new snow is a sign to stay off of steeper terrain features. There is a good likelihood that precipitation will fall as rain at lower elevations. If this occurs, expect loose wet avalanches instead of storm slab avalanches at those elevations.
(2/16/2021) Debris from recent snowfall. A possible crown of an older slab avalanche is visible.
