Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of new snow and wind a considerable avalanche danger will prevail.

As a consequence of the precipitation the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase. The fresh wind slabs are bonding poorly with the old snowpack. They represent the main danger. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular at the base of rock walls, and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. In particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation the avalanches can be released naturally and reach very large size in some cases.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of new snow and strong wind the wind slabs will increase in size additionally. The expected fresh snow, which will be heavier in the eastern parts of our region, accompanied by strong winds from the north, will form a snowpack that, especially on sunny slopes, will have a hard surface crust in many places. On shaded slopes, however, in addition to the old weak basal layers, the presence of granular snow and frost crystals has been reported in the surface layers.

Tendency

The weather will be mostly sunny.
