Avalanche Activity

At elevated altitudes a considerable avalanche danger will prevail.

In some regions up to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen. The wind was moderate to strong. The wind slabs of the last few days represent the main danger. They must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular at the base of rock walls, and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. As the day progresses the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase gradually. Avalanches can in many places be released, even by a single winter sport participant. Backcountry touring calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.

Snowpack Structure

In all aspects the wind slabs have increased in size. Weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. The solar radiation will give rise as the day progresses to moistening of the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes at low and intermediate altitudes.

Tendency

Light precipitation. The wind will be strong at times.
