Avalanche Activity

Daytime avalanche danger increase with further snowfall and wind

Avalanche danger above 1600 m is moderate, below that altitude danger is low. The fresh snow can be triggered in some steep terrain. A cautious route selection is advised. Size and frequency of danger zones increase as fresh snow accumulates and with ascending altitude and intensifying wind.

Snowpack Structure

Strong SW winds are generating trigger-sensitive snowdrift accumulations. Older drifts are also still triggerable. The fresh snow blankets these danger zones, it is falling on a highly diverse snowpack and bonding poorly with it. Crests are utterly windblown or crusty. The old snowpack is stable by and large. The warm and wet ground is reinforcing the gliding movement of the entire snowpack, though this has now receded somewhat.

Weather Forecast

Saturday daytime: Moderate snowfall in the morning, tapering off in the afternoon. At 2000 m: -5 degrees. Light-to-modearte N/NE winds.

Tendency

On Sunday, NE winds will intensify and transport the fresh fallen snow. Avalanche danger increasing due to fresh snow and winds.
