Avalanche Activity

Low avalanche danger, small snowdrift patches at high altitudes, wet snowslides lower down

Avalanche danger is generally low. On high altitude east-facing slopes, isolated danger zones caused by snowdrifts. At lower altitudes, naturally triggered wet-snow avalanches are possible in all aspects due to the sudden impulse of warmth.

Snowpack Structure

As a result of rising temperatures, fresh and older snow masses are stabilizing. At lower altitudes the warmth can destabilize the uppermost layers of the snowpack. The melt-freeze encrusted fundament is stable.

Weather Forecast

On Tuesday night a warm front will pass through, brining storm-strength W/NW winds throughout Styria. The snowfall level will ascend to over 2000 m. In Northern Alpls up to 10 cm of fresh snow is expected, rainfall lower down. South of the Niedere Tauern, mostly dry and dispersed clouds in the afternoon. At 2000 m: +1 to +2 degrees.

Tendency

On Thursday, cooler but still stormy. Avalanche danger levels are not expected to change significantly.
